GEMPAK 5.4 is a general meteorological software package that was originally developed by the National Weather Service's National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). GEMPAK 5.4 is included as part of the NCEP Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (N-AWIPS).

GEMPAK 5.4 is a set of applications programs, libraries, graphic routines, and device drivers for the decoding, analysis, and display of meteorological data. It provides a comprehensive set of meteorological parameter calculations for surface, upper-air, and gridded data. Multiple map projections are supported and data can be displayed or listed by userdefined geographic regions. Satellite and radar imagery may be navigated, subsetted and displayed with graphics overlays. Graphics and imagery can be animated and color enhanced. The set of N-AWIPS graphical user interface (GUI) programs is also included. The GUI programs provide an easy-to-use interface to some of the GEMPAK capabilities.

GEMPAK 5.4 is written in FORTRAN 77 and C-language for computers running the UNIX operating system. During installation and normal use, this package occupies approximately 100Mb of hard disk space. GEMPAK includes drivers for several graphic output systems including X11, Sun GKS, PostScript (color and monochrome), Silicon Graphics, and others. A color monitor is recommended for displaying maps on video display devices. Data for rendering regional maps is included with this package.

GEMPAK 5.4 carries the NASA case number GSC-13402. It was originally released as part of the NASA COSMIC collection.
